On the tail end of the 2005 EduCause conference, Allan Carrington offers “The Merging of My Worlds“, which includes his successful setup for entry level podcasting (at a price of around A$470 [US $350]) including an iRiver to record, two decent lapel mics and a basic mic mixer.  Sounds like a decent starting setup. There’s a proof-of-setup podcast [MP3] to show the quality, as well. 

Of course, now that the new iPods record at 44.1khz iRiver might lose it’s #1 one advantage over the ubiquitous little Mac icon.
